Luling Clean Sweeped By Dow and Local Students

St. Charles, LA - April 17, 2006

Employees from Dow’s St. Charles Operations and students from Luling Elementary recently participated in a community cleanup effort that will be part of a worldwide pollution prevention campaign.

Volunteers participating in the “Learn and Serve” program picked up trash, cleaned out storm drain ditches and planted trees and flower gardens in a local park area.  Students logged in the amount of trash collected and sent the information to the Ocean Conservancy to be used in a worldwide pollution prevention campaign.

Craig Howat, a teacher at Luling Elementary School, said, "Without the Dow funding and volunteers, community betterment projects like these would be next to impossible." Howat also thanked Dow for helping improve the quality of life in the Luling community.

Dow St. Charles Operations Community Relations Manager Stanley Dufrene added, “When Dow has a chance to work with students and help them gain “hands on” experience, we jump at the opportunity.  We want to give young people a stake in their community and teach them that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
