Dow employees at the St. Charles Operation facility recently celebrated Black History Month with an event that involved employees, retirees, community members and students. The event, which focused on "African-Americans in Louisiana: Past, Present and Future," featured a dramatic presentation by students from Destrehan High School, and musical selections performed by the East St. John High School "Voices of Inspiration" Choir. Martin Luther King essay winners Lea Trusty and Kaira Green (St. Rose Elementary School) and Linwood Walker (Hahnville High School) were also recognized during the event.
Highlighting the program was President and CEO of Entergy, New Orleans Inc., Daniel Packer. While describing the role that African Americans have played in national and local history, Packer also emphasized the ongoing contributions and advances in society that are made by African Americans every day.
In addition, St. Charles Operations Site Leader Nawzer Parakh thanked everyone for attending the event and spoke on the importance of Black History on American culture. Parakh also spoke of Dow's emphasis on work place diversity. Parakh said, "Diversity is difference - the many kinds of differences we encounter among individuals, cultures and organizations. At Dow, we encourage employees to embrace each other's diversity and grow through inclusion. Events like our Black History program celebrate this culture."
