Pittsburg Operations is the largest of six Dow Chemical manufacturing and R&D sites within California. The plant is situated on 513 acres along the San Joaquin River – the largest integrated chemical manufacturing complex of its kind on the west coast. In addition, Dow owns and maintains a 300 acre Award-winning wetlands preserve. Products produced on site include herbicides and pesticides to meet the needs of agriculture and pest control industries; latex, for carpet backing and paper coatings; and anti-microbials used in paints and personal care products such as shampoos and cosmetics. One of the site's most important assets is its infrastructure. Pittsburg's location near the San Francisco Bay allows transportation of raw materials and products by road, rail, and water.
